UAE Alhosn app approves new Covid-19 ‘green pass’ protocol

UAE Alhosn app approves new Covid-19 ‘green pass’ protocol

The colour-coded system aims to enhance safe movement and tourism in the country

The UAE’s Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has approved a new protocol called the ‘green pass’ on the Alhosn app that will be used to show people’s vaccination and Covid-19 PCR test status.

Currently, the Alhosn app is used to store individuals’ proof of vaccination and negative PCR test results, which are required to cross the border into the capital Abu Dhabi and get into bars and clubs in Dubai.

According to the Alhosn colour-coded system, there are six categories users can be identified by, including fully vaccinated second dose recipients; first dose recipients; those who are late for their second dose appointment; those exempt from receiving the vaccine and the non-vaccinated.

Under the new system, those who are fully vaccinated will be able to hold their negative PCR test result validity – or ‘green pass’ status – for longer, enabling them to travel to Adu Dhabi for 30 days before needing to take another PCR test.

The categories in full are as follows:

Category 1
Those vaccinated who have received their second dose at least 28 days earlier or are volunteers in vaccine trials. For these individuals, a negative PCR test result will appear on the Alhosn app in green for 30 days, as well as show the active icon (letter E or Gold Star) for seven days.

Category 2
Those who have received their second dose less than 28 days earlier, For these individuals, a negative PCR test result will appear on the Alhosn app in green for 14 days.

Category 3
Those who have received their first dose and are waiting for their second dose appointment. For them, a negative PCR test result will appear on the Alhosn app in green for seven days.

Category 4
Those who have received their first dose and are late to their second dose appointment by 42 days or more. For these individuals, a negative PCR test result will appear on the Alhosn app in green for three days.

Category 5
Those with vaccine exemption certificates. A negative PCR test result will appear on the Alhosn app in green for seven days.

Category 6
Those unvaccinated and eligible for vaccination. For them, a negative PCR test result will appear on the Alhosn app in green for three days.

For all categories, the Alhosn status will turn from green to grey once the relevant PCR test validity ends. The status will turn red should a test result be positive.

According to MoHAP, the new initiative aims to enhance safe movement and tourism, preserve public health and speed up efforts to ensure sustainable recovery.
