Etihad launches free medical insurance for Abu Dhabi visitors

UAE carrier Etihad Airways has partnered with the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) to offer complimentary medical travel insurance to eligible international visitors travelling to or transitioning through Abu Dhabi.

Valid for travel between July and December 2026, the offer provides up to 15 days’ medical cover in the UAE on eligible Etihad-operated flights. The insurance is included automatically with qualifying tickets and requires no separate application.

Travellers using Etihad’s complimentary Abu Dhabi Stopover Programme are also covered for the duration of their stay. The policy is underwritten and administered by The National Insurance Company – Daman, part of PureHealth.

The announcement also follows comments by Emirates President Sir Tim Clark, who said airlines may need to offer incentives beyond discounted fares to restore confidence in regional travel. “We will introduce all sorts of incentives other than price that will attract the passengers back,” he said, adding that Emirates was considering additional travel protection, family support measures and assistance with return journeys during periods of airspace disruption.

Neves also recently said the airline expects to exceed pre-conflict capacity levels by mid-June, operating around 8% above the same period last year. The carrier is also pursuing a double-digit order for additional widebody aircraft to support future network expansion.

Currently Etihad is expanding its summer network with three new routes and the return of five seasonal services across Europe and Africa. New destinations include Krakow, Palma de Mallorca and Zanzibar, while seasonal flights to Malaga, Mykonos, Santorini and Nice have also resumed.
