5 UAE cities named among the world’s safest

The UAE has dominated Numbeo’s Mid-Year 2026 Safety Index rankings, with five emirates ranking among the world’s top 10 safest cities. Ajman topped the list, followed by Abu Dhabi in second place, Ras Al Khaimah in third, Sharjah in fourth and Dubai in sixth. 

Ajman and Abu Dhabi both recorded index scores of 88.6, followed by Ras Al Khaimah (85.3), Sharjah (84.7) and Dubai (83.8). Cities are ranked by an index score, with higher values indicating greater perceived safety based on factors such as crime levels, public security and resident sentiment. 

Elsewhere in the GCC, Doha placed fifth with a score of 84.6, while Muscat ranked ninth. Manama, Riyadh and Jeddah also featured in the wider rankings.

Major General Sheikh Sultan bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of Ajman Police, credited the achievement to the emirate’s continued investment in artificial intelligence (AI), smart technologies and integrated security systems, saying the recognition would further strengthen Ajman’s appeal as a destination for tourism, investment and quality of life.  

The recognition comes as Ajman’s tourism sector continues to expand. In 2025, tourism revenue rose 7% and visitor numbers increased 9%, leading to the creation of a dedicated Department of Tourism, Culture and Media.

The latest city rankings follow another strong performance for the UAE in Numbeo’s global safety indices. In January 2026, the UAE was named the world’s safest country for the second consecutive year in Numbeo’s Safety Index by Country.
