Azamara to operate solar eclipse sailings in 2027

Azamara Cruises will operate a series of special sailings timed to coincide with the 2 August 2027 total solar eclipse, offering guests the chance to witness the rare celestial event from the open sea alongside astronomers and science experts.

Developed in partnership with Lowell Observatory, the cruises will feature astronomy talks, guided eclipse viewing and interactive workshops exploring subjects ranging from starlight and space to comets and the wider universe.

One of the featured itineraries is a 10-night Mediterranean voyage aboard Azamara Onward, departing Barcelona, Spain, on 27 July. The cruise sails through Spain, Italy, Tunisia and Malta, calling at Palma de Mallorca, Ibiza, Mahón, Cagliari, La Goulette, Valletta, Catania and Sorrento, before arriving in Civitavecchia (Rome) on 6 August. The ship will be at sea on 2 August, positioning guests for optimal viewing of the total solar eclipse.

Experts joining the programme include Dr Amanda Bosh, Dr Stephen Levine, Dr Alex Polanski, Dr Lisa Chien, Dr Kate Minker and Bef Wilson, who will bring specialist knowledge from across the fields of astronomy and space science to the onboard programme.

The announcement follows Azamara’s recent plans to enhance its onboard wellness offering through its Azamara Forward fleet enhancement programme. Rolling out from August 2026, the upgrades will introduce additional Sanctum Spa treatment rooms, physician-led medi-spa services and expanded wellness retail across the cruise line’s four-ship fleet.

Looking ahead, Azamara has also unveiled 23 golf-focused voyages for 2028 in partnership with Premier Golf, combining destination-rich itineraries with rounds at championship golf courses around the world.
