Celebrity Cruises appoints chef Janaína Torres as godmother of newest ship
Celebrity Xcel will have “heightened focus” on destination-inspired culinary experiences
Celebrity Cruises has appointed chef Janaína Torres as godmother of Celebrity Xcel.
The Brazilian co-owns the award-winning restaurant A Casa do Porco in São Paulo and was named best female chef in the world by World’s 50 Best.
The line said she is recognised for her approach combining innovation, no-waste and authentic Latin American recipes, and will christen its newest Edge Class ship on November 16 in Fort Lauderdale.
Xcel will have a "heightened focus on destination-inspired culinary experiences" through its new venue The Bazaar, which will change depending on itinerary.
The Bazaar, which will be inspired by four Caribbean festivals, will also include open kitchen concept Mosaic, an industry-first Chef’s Table experience serving a multi-course tasting menu covering all continents, and Chef’s Studio, the cruise line’s first destination-inspired cooking school.
Celebrity Cruises President Laura Hodges Bethge said: “We are honoured for chef Janaína Torres, a trailblazer in the culinary industry, to be godmother of Celebrity Xcel.
“Janaína shares our commitment to celebrating and sharing global culture through elevated culinary experiences, connecting diners with culture through unique food experiences.”

Torres said: “I’ve always believed that fine dining should be accessible, not intimidating. Food brings us together, connecting us through new flavours, traditions, and shared memories."
Launching in November, Celebrity Xcel will sail seven-night itineraries from Fort Lauderdale and alternating between the Bahamas, Mexico, Cayman Islands, Puerto Plata, St Thomas and St Maarten.
In Summer 2026, the ship will then set sail on her inaugural European season, offering seven-to 11-night journeys departing Barcelona and Athens, including new overnight stays in Madeira.
