Mohammed Wazir to lead Gewan Island Qatar resort ahead of 2027 opening
Corinthia Hotels has appointed Mohammed Wazir as General Manager of Corinthia Gewan Island Qatar, ahead of the brand’s Gulf debut with the opening of the five-star island resort in early 2027. In his new role, Wazir will lead the pre-opening and full operational launch of the property, steering strategy, operations and brand delivery during this pivotal development phase.
Bringing more than two decades of international experience, Wazir is recognised for his strategic leadership, people-first management style and ability to drive commercial performance across diverse markets.
He returns to Corinthia Hotels following senior positions with Anantara and, most recently, Our Habitas, where he oversaw the opening of Ras Abouq in Qatar. His past roles include GM positions at Anantara’s Banana Island Resort Doha and Al Baleed Resort Salalah, where he was credited with enhancing guest experience and brand positioning while achieving strong market results.

Earlier in his career, Wazir played a key role in the opening of Corinthia London as Executive Assistant Manager, helping establish the hotel’s operational culture and long-term positioning. During his previous tenure with Corinthia, he also held roles at properties in Prague, St Petersburg, London, St George’s Bay Malta and Tripoli, gaining an in-depth understanding of the brand’s operations across multiple markets.
Simon P Casson, CEO of Corinthia Hotels, said the appointment reflected Corinthia’s long-term commitment to nurturing leadership “shaped from within the brand,” adding that Wazir brings a “deep, lived understanding of our culture, standards and values".
Commenting on his return, Wazir said he was dedicated to realising a vision of “exceptional craftsmanship and genuine hospitality,” and looked forward to delivering a “grand boutique-luxury sanctuary that captures Qatar’s elegance and innovation".
Located on Gewan Island adjacent to The Pearl-Qatar, the resort will feature 110 guest rooms and suites, including six themed suites and a Shuyoukh (Royal) suite, all with views overlooking the sea, golf course and island. Facilities will include at least three restaurants, a spa and wellness centre, multiple pools, a gym and a beach club with sea-water pools extending from the island.
Beyond Qatar, Corinthia Hotels continues its regional expansion with Corinthia Dubai scheduled to open in 2030.
