Century-old Gran Hotel La Florida reopens as METT Barcelona after major revamp
Dubai-based Sunset Hospitality Group has opened METT Barcelona, its second Spanish outpost and the first in Catalonia, following the earlier launch of METT Marbella – Estepona.
The opening is part of a fast-paced expansion that will see the group, which has more than 50 properties across the Middle East, debut METT Singapore in October, METT Milan in December and Casa METT Sitges in March 2026.
Located on a hilltop just 15 minutes from downtown, the five-star hotel offers a secluded setting with sweeping views of the city and Mediterranean.
It occupies the historic Gran Hotel La Florida, a property dating back more than a century that once welcomed figures such as Ernest Hemingway and Jimmy Stewart.
The landmark has undergone a £15 million (AED74.9 million) transformation under the METT Hotels & Resorts brand, designed to preserve its character while introducing modern layouts, more spacious rooms and luxury enhancements.
