New codeshare agreement offers six destinations via Bucharest
UAE’s Etihad Airways has signed a codeshare partnership with Romanian national airline Tarom, expanding access to destinations across Romania and Eastern Europe. The deal was confirmed during the 2026 IATA Annual General Meeting in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Etihad customers can make single ticket bookings to six destinations across Romania, via connections in Bucharest, including Baia Mare, Cluj-Napoca, Iasi, Oradea, Suceava, and Timișoara. In addition to Romania, Tarom also operates to Belgrade in Serbia, Budapest in Hungary, Chisinau in Moldova and Sofia in Bulgaria, offering further regional connectivity.
For Romanian travellers, the partnership provides access to Etihad’s Abu Dhabi hub and onward connections across the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Oceania.

Arik De, Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer at Etihad, said: “Tarom gives Etihad real depth in Eastern Europe. Launching this codeshare ahead of our own Bucharest service means we enter a fast-growing market with genuine scale from day one.”
The partnership comes ahead of Etihad’s Abu Dhabi-Bucharest launch on 17 December 2026, allowing the airline to establish connectivity in the market before starting direct operations. The carrier already serves several Central and Eastern European destinations, including Vienna in Austria, Warsaw in Poland, Prague in Czech Republic and Moscow and Sochi in Russia.
The agreement increases Etihad’s codeshare network to 47 airline partners and more than 130 interline relationships, providing access to over 350 destinations worldwide. In recent months, the carrier has partnered with Uzbekistan Airways, adding access to eight cities across the country via Tashkent, and with Air Cambodia, opening routes to Siem Reap and Vietnam.
