Order marks departure for the all-Boeing Dubai-based carrier
Dubai-based airline Flydubai has signed an agreement to acquire up to 150 Airbus A321neo aircraft, marking its first order with the European manufacturer and a strategic shift from its all-Boeing fleet.
The agreement, announced during the Dubai Airshow 2025, represents a milestone for the low-cost carrier as it works to “diversify its fleet and strengthen long-term expansion” plans, according to Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Emirates and Flydubai.
The Airbus A321neo, part of the bestselling A320 family, is the latest and largest single-aisle aircraft from Airbus. It integrates advanced technologies and new-generation engines to deliver more than 20% savings in fuel burn and lower CO2 emissions compared to earlier single-aisle models, making it “truly an efficient aircraft”, according to Sheikh Ahmed.

Flydubai currently operates 96 Boeing 737 aircraft serving more than 135 destinations across 57 countries. However, ongoing delivery delays from Boeing have affected its original fleet growth timeline by around 20 aircraft. The addition of Airbus jets is expected to support capacity growth while maintaining flexibility amid supply chain constraints.
The order follows Flydubai’s recent purchase of 30 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, which will enable the airline to expand beyond its traditional network of short- and medium-haul routes and serve new destinations in Europe, Asia and Australia.
Flydubai’s signing with Airbus follows sister carrier Emirates’ US$38 billion order of 65 additional Boeing 777-9s, signed at the Dubai Airshow. The deal expands Emirates’ total wide-body backlog to 315 aircraft, including 270 from the 777X family, reinforcing its status as the world’s largest operator of the Boeing 777.
