Low-cost carrier establishes fifth new base in Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia’s low-cost carrier Flynas will launch six new international routes from Abha from 29 March 2026, strengthening connectivity from the southwest of the kingdom. The new flights will link Abha year-round to Dubai, Cairo, Istanbul and Addis Ababa, with seasonal services to Kuwait and Trabzon on the northwestern coast of Turkiye, offering travellers across the Middle East, Africa and Europe direct access to the Aseer mountain region.
The expansion follows the establishment of a new Flynas operations base at Abha International Airport, marking the airline’s fifth hub in Saudi, alongside Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam and Madinah. Flynas is the first Saudi airline to operate from five different hubs nationwide.
The new Abha base will initially serve 11 destinations, including five domestic cities – Riyadh, Dammam, Jeddah, Madinah and Tabuk – in addition to the new international routes. The carrier plans to gradually double the number of destinations linked to Abha as part of a broader growth strategy to expand its total network from 80 to 165 destinations across all five hubs.

Located in the scenic Aseer region, Abha is known for its cool mountain climate, lush landscapes and proximity to Jabal Soudah, Saudi Arabia’s highest peak. The new base will boost air connectivity and support Aseer’s bid to become a year-round tourism destination amid multi-billion-dollar investments in resorts, airports and visitor infrastructure.
Flynas CEO Bander Almohanna said: “The launch of our new operations base in Abha represents a strategic investment designed to build an integrated national operating network. Beyond operational growth, the hub aims to stimulate economic and tourism development in the Aseer region, supporting the goal of transforming it into a year-round global tourist destination.”
Based in Riyadh, Flynas currently operates more than 2,000 weekly flights across 156 routes to over 80 destinations in 38 countries. The airline continues to expand its network, recently resuming direct Jeddah–Kuwait flights, launching Riyadh–Abu Dhabi services, and adding new routes to Milan, Geneva, Krakow, Rize and Casablanca.
Complementing its network expansion, Flynas is also upgrading passenger services with new family check-in counters at key airports, recently introduced at Jeddah’s King Abdulaziz International Airport following successful implementation at Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport.
