From saunas to salt pools, discover calm in the middle of the ocean
Norwegian Cruise Line has placed wellness at the heart of life onboard with The Floating Spa, a space where treatments and thermal experiences unfold in step with the sea.
Rather than being separate from the voyage, the spa is designed to feel like part of it, offering time to pause and recharge while staying connected to the ocean outside.
On Norwegian Viva, one of the line’s newest ships, the Mandara Spa has been built around contemporary design and includes new features.
A charcoal sauna, the first of its kind at sea, sits alongside a salt therapy room and an immersive thermal circuit that alternates between hot and cold experiences.
A two-story waterfall brings a natural element to the space.
Guests can linger on heated loungers, float in a mineral-rich salt pool or move gradually through the thermal journey in unhurried stages.
The result is an environment that encourages the body and mind to reset at a slower pace.

Norwegian Epic offers its own version of the experience, centred on an expansive Thermal Suite. Here, the traditions of spa culture — steam rooms, saunas, heated stone loungers — are placed directly against views of the horizon.
The menu of treatments reflects the same balance. The Zero Gravity Wellness Massage is designed to relieve tension through carefully supported positioning that creates a sense of weightlessness.
The Hot Mineral Body Boost focuses on warmth and circulation, while the Aroma Spa Seaweed Massage combines essential oils with marine ingredients to hydrate and detoxify.
Access to the Thermal Suites is intentionally limited, so many guests choose to book a pass for regular use during their sailing. This allows visits to be spread across the voyage, fitting easily between excursions in port, time by the pool, or workouts fitness centre.
Itineraries with longer stretches at sea make the Floating Spa particularly rewarding. A 15-day transatlantic sailing from Lisbon to Galveston, for example, balances far-flung ports with quiet days in transit, where the spa becomes a focal point.
On shorter but more port-intensive routes such as a nine-day Greek Isles cruise from Rome, time in the spa offers balance between cultural exploration ashore and calm recovery back on board.
For those seeking to complement their spa experience with an energiSing workout, the Pulse Fitness Centre offers state-of-the-art equipment, ocean views and a range of wellness classes.
