Oman’s Duqm unveils US$480m tourism development

Oman’s Duqm town is expanding its tourism offering through a US$480 million mixed-use development by the Special Economic Zone at Duqm (SEZAD), featuring hotels, hotel apartments, a hospitality academy and  entertainment attractions.

 

The project will be developed on a 200,000-square-metre site and is expected to deliver more than 2,600 hotel rooms, 3,700 residential units and 63,000 square metres of commercial space by 2040, alongside more than one million square metres of leisure and cultural facilities. It is expected to attract more than 370,000 visitors annually.

 

The development forms part of a wider waterfront masterplan that will transform Duqm into an integrated tourism destination. Spanning 31 square kilometres along a 15-kilometre Arabian Sea coastline, the development will feature beaches, dramatic rock formations, marinas, resorts, eco-tourism experiences and cultural attractions. The wider destination is also expanding its adventure tourism offering with activities including windsurfing, kitesurfing, sailing and diving, alongside attractions such as the 46-million-year-old Duqm Rock Garden, the pink lagoons of Barr Al Hikman and the nearby Arabian Oryx Sanctuary.

Located around 550 kilometres south of Muscat, Duqm is a five-and-a-half-hour drive from the capital or a one-hour domestic flight to Duqm Airport (DQM). The coastal city forms part of Oman’s Special Economic Zone and has been identified as one of the country’s key tourism and investment destinations.

 

Tourism investment in Duqm exceeded OMR853 million (US$2.22 billion) by the end of 2025. More than 15 tourism projects had been completed, with a further 11 under construction and five in the planning stage.

 

The latest investment comes as Oman continues to grow its tourism infrastructure nationwide. Three- to five-star hotels generated OMR96.15 million (US$250 million) in revenue during the first four months of 2026, welcoming nearly 697,000 guests, according to the National Centre for Statistics and Information.
