Quiero opens in Dubai’s Barsha South neighbourhood

The restaurant specialises in Andalusian cuisine

A new Spanish restaurant has opened in Dubai’s Barsha South area. Quiero is based at Platinum One Tower and is open daily from 8am to 10pm.

Anisia Pienaar has opened Quiero or ‘I want’ in Spanish, inspired by her the dishes she enjoyed as a child. In fact, Pienaar’s mother, Mary has been appointed as the venue’s head chef.

The laid-back restaurant is inspired by typically colourful and open-plan kitchens and dining rooms found in Andalusia. The signature paella is where they aim to make their mark but there are plenty of tapas dishes to choose from with patatas bravas, gazpacho, Spanish cheese platters, empanadas, tortilla, calamari and grilled prawns on the menu. There are also salads, bocadillos (Spanish sandwiches), pastries and coffee. Desserts include crema Catalana, flan, natillas and cakes.

Speaking about the opening, Pienaar said: “Growing up, my days often revolved around food, but no matter where I travelled to or ate, nothing was as good as my mama’s famous cooking. I knew I had to share her creations, giving mama the platform to do what she does best.

“It has been a dream to bring authentic and traditional Spanish cooking to Dubai and I’m thrilled to finally make it a reality. I can’t wait to welcome everyone and create the feeling of a Spanish home here.”
