Former ABS CEO Christopher Wiernicki brings four decades of experience
Royal Caribbean Group has appointed industry veteran Christopher J Wiernicki to its Board of Directors, effective immediately.
As the former Chairman and CEO of American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), Wiernicki brings more than 40 years of experience across commercial, government and international sectors. He is known for his expertise in sustainable energy initiatives, marine operations and safety, as well as digitalisation and cybersecurity.
He first joined ABS in 1991, where held multiple senior leadership positions. Wiernicki began his 14-year tenure as CEO in 2011, during which, he expanded ABS’ consulting and software services and invested in digital platforms, research and development, growing the company to become one of the leading firms in marine and offshore operations.
In recognition of his leadership, Wiernicki was elected to the US National Academy of Engineering in 2021 and has served in senior advisory roles and fellowships at various marine and engineering organisations.

Commenting on the appointment, Jason Liberty, Chairman and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group, said: “Chris’ disciplined approach to growth, innovation, and responsible operations will be highly valuable as we continue our evolution as a global vacation leader.
“In addition, his deep marine industry expertise brings important perspective to our Board as we continue to scale responsibly.”
Wiernicki’s appointment comes as Royal Caribbean advances its fleet expansion and investment in flagship destinations. The line is set to introduce a new Discovery Class with the first ship in the series to launch in 2029, followed by another in 2032. Smaller ship sizes and capacities will allow for travel to more ports and exclusive itineraries.
Royal Caribbean is also expanding its destinations portfolio, recently opening the Royal Beach Club Paradise Island in The Bahamas, marking its second development in the island nation after Perfect Day at CocoCay, which debuted in 2019.
