Royal Caribbean reviews Perfect Day Mexico location

Royal Caribbean and the Mexican government are reportedly in talks to relocate the cruise line’s proposed Perfect Day Mexico development to a “less environmentally sensitive area”.

 

According to Reuters, authorities have rejected three permits for the project – which includes a pier – citing environmental risks to the coral reef along the Mahahual Caribbean coastline.

 

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday 27 May 2026, Mexico’s president Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed the development “will not be carried out there”.

 

A Royal Caribbean spokesperson said the cruise line was “disappointed” by the decision but “respects the role of Mexico’s environmental authorities”.

The spokesperson added: “Mahahual is a special place that deserves care and protection. We continue to believe in Mexico and are optimistic in the potential to advance our investment responsibly.

 

“We will re-engage stakeholders to move forward in a way that delivers shared prosperity through the development of essential environmental infrastructure, the creation of thousands of local jobs, and community programs that support the people of Mexico.”

 

Perfect Day Mexico was originally slated to open in autumn 2027, spanning more than 200 acres across seven themed neighbourhoods.
