Destination spotlighted for regenerative tourism focus
Saudi Arabia’s Amaala has been named among the world’s leading wellness-focused developments by the Global Wellness Institute (GWI), which examined sustainable tourism and real estate projects.
The Red Sea Global (RSG) destination was included in a global wellness case study unveiled during the 2026 Wellness Real Estate and Communities Symposium in New York, which focused on developments centred on regenerative tourism, sustainability, wellness-led living and environmentally conscious design.
Amaala was spotlighted alongside the Red Sea Global headquarters for integrating renewable energy systems, workforce wellbeing initiatives, nature-led architecture and wellness infrastructure across the destination.
Stephen Cheesebrough, Head of Development at Red Sea Global, said: “Being recognised by the Global Wellness Institute alongside the world’s most advanced wellness developments is a testament to our mission to create destinations that not only protect and restore nature, but also promote the wellbeing of everyone who experiences them.”

The accolade comes as Red Sea Global continues expanding Amaala’s luxury hospitality and residential pipeline as part of Saudi Arabia’s wider tourism strategy under Vision 2030. Once complete, the destination is expected to feature more than 3,000 hotel rooms across 30 hotels powered entirely by renewable energy and operating with a zero-carbon footprint, while targeting a 30% net conservation benefit to local ecosystems by 2040. Annual visitor numbers will also be capped at 500,000 to support environmental preservation efforts.
Planned hospitality and residential brands include Clinique La Prairie, Equinox, Jayasom, Six Senses, Four Seasons, Rosewood and Nammos. Corallium, a marine life institute and visitor attraction focused on regenerative tourism, will also form part of the development. Meanwhile, Amaala Yacht Club is scheduled to host the finale of The Ocean Race in 2027.
According to the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), the kingdom’s travel and tourism GDP rose 7.4% in 2025, contributing US$178 billion to the economy.
