Budget carrier SpiceJet launches five-weekly service
Sharjah Airport has expanded its India connectivity with the launch of direct flights to Ahmedabad, Gujarat’s cultural capital, operated by Indian low-cost carrier SpiceJet. The new service supports Sharjah Airport Authority’s ongoing strategy to strengthen air transport links between the UAE and India, one of its largest and fastest-growing markets.
The five-times-weekly service marks SpiceJet’s second UAE destination after Dubai. Flights operate every Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday between Sharjah International Airport (SHJ) and Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (AMD).
Departures leave Ahmedabad at 08:20, arriving in Sharjah at 10:20, with the return leg departing SHJ at 12:00 and landing back in AMD at 16:40. Return fares start from AED900.
Ahmedabad, the largest city in the western Indian state of Gujarat, is known for its rich cultural heritage and thriving culinary scene. Highlights include the Sabarmati Riverfront, lined with cycling tracks, gardens and boating stations, the historic Bhadra Fort and the intricately carved Adalaj Stepwell, a 15th-century structure covered in stone carvings.

Air Arabia to launch direct Sharjah-London flights
“Sharjah’s position as a key regional hub makes it an important addition to our network,” said Debojo Maharshi, Chief Business Officer at SpiceJet. “This route launch reflects increasing travel demand between India and the UAE from both leisure and business segments.”
India is currently a cornerstone of Sharjah Airport’s operations, accounting for around 25 daily flights to major destinations including Mumbai, Delhi, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram and Surat, largely operated by Air Arabia alongside services from Indian carriers such as Air India Express.
The addition of SpiceJet’s Ahmedabad service further deepens this connectivity and taps into sustained demand from business travellers, visiting friends and relatives (VFR) traffic and the wider Indian expatriate community in the UAE.
The launch comes as Sharjah International Airport reports record results, handling 19.48 million passengers in 2025, up from 17.1 million in 2024 and 15.36 million in 2023, a 13.9% year-on-year increase driven by network expansion and the arrival of new airlines including SalamAir, Caspian Airlines and Ethiopian Airlines.
Recent additions to the route map include Munich, Vienna, Prague, Warsaw Modlin, Sochi, Addis Ababa, Krabi, Qeshm, Bandar Abbas and Ahvaz, while Air Arabia will further boost long-haul connectivity when it launches the first direct Sharjah–London Gatwick flights on 29 March 2026.
