Guided hikes, kayak trips and wildlife spotting added to pre-cruise Antarctica itineraries
Silversea has unveiled new land experiences for its upcoming Chile hotel, designed to immerse guests in the wildlife, landscapes and culture of Tierra del Fuego, the gateway to Antarctica.
From kayaking the Beagle Channel to hiking the Dientes de Navarino and spotting seabirds along wild shorelines, Silversea’s new itineraries are aimed at extending the expedition experience before or after a cruise.
The launchpad for these adventures will be The Cormorant at 55 South – Silversea’s first-ever hotel – opening in Puerto Williams at the end of 2025.
Overlooking glaciers, mountains and Magellanic forest, the world’s southernmost hotel offers an inviting, nature-led retreat that connects guests directly to their surroundings.
Guests to the hotel can join guided wildlife walks in Parque Municipal Ukika, paddle through waters once navigated by early explorers, or spot cormorants, dolphin gulls and yellow-billed pintails on specialist-led excursions.
Drawing on its heritage as a pioneer in luxury expedition cruising, Silversea will deploy a team of expert guides, from naturalists to historians, to lead guests on adventures through subpolar forests, alongside rugged coastlines, and into landscapes shaped by glaciers over millennia.
Evening lectures back at the hotel will add expert insight to the day’s activities.
Bert Hernandez, President of Silversea, said: “Our vision for The Cormorant at 55 South has always been to transform a journey that had to be endured into one our guests truly enjoy. This will be a new point of discovery at the edge of the world, making the journey to Antarctica more seamless while immersing guests in the heritage of Puerto Williams.”
Getting to this destination is about to become easier than ever. From the 2025-2026 Antarctica season, Silversea will introduce an exclusive direct charter flight from Santiago to Puerto Williams, the only one of its kind.

Guests will benefit from upgraded aircraft, spacious seating, dedicated check-in and curated dining en route, cutting travel complexity and maximising time in this remarkable part of the world.
For those keen to dive straight into their polar adventure, Silversea’s innovative six-day Antarctica Fly Cruise Expeditions also take to the skies, flying above the often-turbulent Drake Passage to start exploring the White Continent sooner, without compromising the depth of experience on the ground.
Silversea Antarctica cruises take place between December and March and stretch from 10 to 21 days.
