Taj increases footprint in 2026 with new hotels in South Africa and Frankfurt

Taj Hotels has expanded its international portfolio with the opening of a safari lodge in South Africa and a hotel in Frankfurt, Germany, its first property in continental Europe, strengthening the luxury brand’s presence across key global markets.

 

The group has opened Taj Bush Lodge in Greater Kruger, South Africa, the first of three planned luxury wilderness lodges in the region. Located within the Big Five Balule Nature Reserve, the six-key property offers bush dining,wellness facilities, safari experiences and access to Kruger National Park.

 

Puneet Chhatwal, Managing Director and CEO, Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), said: “As Taj steps into Greater Kruger with the first of three luxury wilderness lodges, it brings with it a legacy of over a century of offering exceptional experiences deep rooted in the destination.”

 

IHCL recently also launched Taj Hessischer Hof Frankfurt, marking the brand’s debut in continental Europe. The 126-key hotel occupies the former Grandhotel Hessischer Hof site near Frankfurt’s exhibition district and has reopened following an extensive renovation. Facilities include the J Wellness Circle, The Chambers business club, event spaces and dining venues including Bombay Brasserie and Jimmy’s Bar.

The property has restored one of Frankfurt’s best-known luxury hotel addresses to operation. The hotel combines the building’s historic architecture with Indian-inspired design elements and includes a Royal Presidential Suite.

 

The openings form part of IHCL’s broader international growth strategy as it expands across key leisure and business destinations worldwide. In Europe, IHCL operates Taj 51 Buckingham Gate Suites and Residences in London. The group also has a presence across the UAE, US, South Africa, Nepal, Bhutan, the Maldives and Sri Lanka.

 

In the Middle East, IHCL operates Taj Dubai in Business Bay, Taj Jumeirah Lakes Towers and Taj Exotica Resort & Spa, The Palm, Dubai. The group is also expanding its regional footprint with upcoming developments in Bahrain, including a 200-room hotel in Downtown Seef, Manama, and a 251-key resort in Hamala. In Ras Al Khaimah, IHCL is partnering with BNW Developments on Taj Wellington Mews Al Marjan Island, a branded residences and hotel project.
