Tehran–Dubai flights resume months after Iran war

Flights between Tehran Imam Khomeini International Airport (IKA) and Dubai International Airport (DXB) are set to fully resume on 1 July 2026, months after the Iran war disrupted air travel across the Gulf and prompted widespread airspace closures.

A phased rollout is underway, with Iranian carrier Sepehran operating a scheduled flight from Tehran at 10:40 on Monday 29 June 2026, marking the first commercial service since operations were suspended. 

Ramin Kashefazar, Head of IKA, told Iranian media that “the necessary arrangements have been made” to resume Tehran–Dubai services.

The reopening follows a ceasefire between the US and Iran that paved the way for the gradual restoration of regional air links. On 17 June 2026, both countries agreed to a 60-day framework to negotiate a lasting peace agreement.

Nearly four months after regional air links were first affected, Gulf aviation continues its recovery. Passenger volumes across the GCC rose 65% in May compared with April, while the UAE recorded a 75.6% increase in travel demand. Emirates has restored 96% of its global network, with Etihad Airways, Flydubai and Qatar Airways continuing to rebuild schedules and expand capacity across the region.

Airlines have also introduced additional measures to reassure travellers and boost tourism to the GCC. Emirates recently unveiled comprehensive travel insurance that includes conflict-related medical cover, accommodation support and rebooking assistance, while Etihad Airways is offering complimentary medical travel insurance for eligible international visitors travelling to or through Abu Dhabi.
