Wego to offer Umrah e-visa

UAE travel marketplace Wego has partnered with Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah to launch a digital platform that allows pilgrims to book travel services and submit Umrah visa requests through a single channel.

 

The platform combines flights, accommodation, ground transportation and visa request services, aiming to simplify the pilgrimage booking process for travellers heading to Makkah (Mecca) and Madinah (Medina).

 

The launch forms part of the kingdom’s wider efforts to digitise pilgrimage services and improve access to Umrah travel through licensed operators.

 

Under the partnership, Wego will manage bookings, payments and distribution, while licensed Umrah providers will be responsible for delivering services on the ground. The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah will continue issuing visas and overseeing regulatory compliance and service standards.

 

Pilgrims will be able to choose from a range of service packages, from basic support services to premium options that include private transfers and personalised experiences.

The platform will also include consumer protection measures such as booking amendments, refunds under specified conditions and multilingual customer support.

 

Mamoun Hmidan, Chief Business Officer at Wego, said: “Through our collaboration with the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, we are enabling a more seamless and transparent Umrah journey powered by technology.”

 

The launch coincides with the start of Saudi’s 2026 Umrah season. The kingdom began receiving pilgrims for the new season on 31 May, with Umrah visas available until 9 March 2027 and the final entry date for pilgrims set for 23 March 2027. 

 

Religious tourism remains a key driver of Saudi’s visitor economy. More than 15 million Umrah pilgrims performed the pilgrimage in Q1 2025, according to the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT), with international pilgrims accounting for more than 82% of arrivals through the kingdom’s major airports.
