Vessel adds 41 cabins to Viking's growing fleet in Egypt

Cruise company Viking has taken delivery of its newest ship for the Nile River, the Viking Hathor.

The new vessel was presented to the team at the Massara shipyard in Cairo, Egypt and joins the company's growing fleet of ships for the Nile River. It will sail Viking's popular 12-day Pharaohs & Pyramids trip.

Able to host 82 guests in 41 staterooms, Viking Hathor is an identical sister ship to the Viking Osiris and the Viking Aton, and therefore features several aspects familiar to Viking guests, including its distinctive square bow and an indoor/outdoor Aquavit Terrace.

During the 12-day Pharaohs & Pyramids itinerary, guests begin with a three-night stay at a hotel in Cairo, taking in the Great Pyramids of Giza, the necropolis of Sakkara, the Mosque of Muhammad Ali and the Grand Egyptian Museum.

Passengers then fly to Luxor, where they visit the Temples of Luxor and Karnak before boarding a Viking river ship for an eight-day Nile River roundtrip cruise.

Excursions take in the tomb of Nefertari and Tutankhamun in the Valley of the Queens; the Temple of Khnum in Esna; Qena’s Dendera Temple complex; the temples at Abu Simbel; the High Dam in Aswan, and a Nubian village. The journey concludes with a flight back to Cairo for a final night in the ancient city.
