Accor opens world’s largest Sofitel in Egypt

The 615-key Cairo property offers Nile views and four dining venues

Sofitel has unveiled its largest hotel globally with the opening of Cairo Downtown Nile.

Located in the heart of Egypt’s historic capital, the 615-key property overlooks the Nile and provides easy access to key attractions including Tahrir Square, the Giza Pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum, which is scheduled to reopen in July 2025.

The brand’s fourth destination in Egypt, Nicolas Gronier, Sofitel's VP of Global Marketing, called the opening "an important milestone in Sofitel's commitment to redefining luxury hospitality."

It joins sister properties Sofitel Cairo Nile El Gezirah, Sofitel Winter Palace Luxor and Sofitel Legend Old Cataract Aswan also located in Egypt.

Spread across 24 storeys, the five-star property has 563 rooms and 52 suites, all with private balconies, river views and decor that blends French elegance with Egyptian heritage. Suites include spa-like bathrooms with rain showers, separate living areas and around-the-clock butler service.

Four dining venues showcase global flavours, from Egyptian-Lebanese cuisine served al fresco at Jayda Nile Terrace to East Asian specialties at Kamala and authentic Italian dishes at Oak Grill. The Stage One nightclub delivers cocktails against the backdrop of the Nile.

Facilities include an outdoor pool, fitness centre and spa with saunas and treatments that blend French and Egyptian traditions, as well as more than 2,000 square metres of events space.

For Suite guests, Club Millésime lounge on the 22nd floor provides exclusive services, from wine tasting to afternoon tea.

The Sofitel opening arrives amid rapid growth in Cairo's hospitality sector, as the city aims to attract 30 million annual visitors by 2032, up from 15.8 million in 2024.

Egypt's tourism revenues more than doubled from $7.2 billion in 2014 to $15.3 billion in 2024, and now accounts for more than 8% of GDP.
