Dubai hotels score highly in world’s best pastry creators ranking

The Royal Tearoom at Atlantis the Royal is among the pastry champions on La Liste

The UAE is famous for its sweet tooth and the latest global ranking of pastry shops, bakeries, cafes and tea shops underlines the nation’s passion – and prowess – when it comes to crafting sweet treats.

Connecting Travel can exclusively reveal the UAE outlets that have made it onto La Liste’s ranking of the world’s best pastry shops. Among the hotel-based winners, The Royal Tearoom helmed by pastry chef Christophe Devoille at Atlantis the Royal is a standout choice.

The Royal Tearoom also scooped a special award for World’s Best Afternoon Tea (pictured) with judges noting the “exemplary afternoon tea experience, with outstanding service and location”.

Other UAE hotel-based outlets that ranked include the new Bonbon Café Angelo Musa at The Lana; The Lobby Lounge at the Ritz Carlton Dubai; Margaux Dubai at Jumeirah Mina A'Salam, and The Atrium at ME Dubai.

The Pastry Opening of The Year Award was given to Bonbon Café, helmed by pastry champion Angelo Musa.

Billing itself as "the ranking of rankings", La Liste is an independent restaurant ranking founded in 2015 with transparent judging methodology. Based on the belief that several opinions are better than one, La Liste aims to condense the views of fine dining guides, respected restaurant critics, bloggers and consumer review sites using a system that integrates almost 1,000 international sources. Depending on the country, these sources may include opinions published in international, national and regional press publications.

Co-founder and Editor-in-Chief of La Liste Jörg Zipprick said: “Our method is inspired by the ‘meta-classifications’ used in academia (Shanghai Ranking), sports (ATP) and other fields, such as rottentomatoes.com for films and metacritic.com for video games. This not only allows international coverage, we can also spot new trends and how they’re being interpreted by different media very quickly.”

In September 2022, La Liste's mobile app relaunched to include its World’s Best Pastry Shop selection, integrating more than 2,250 patisseries, cake shops, bakeries and tea rooms spanning more than 60 countries. This year, there are more than 3,000 entries in the ranking.
