Dubai international tourist numbers up 9%

Emirate welcomed more than 16m visitors in 11 months with Western Europe lead source market

Dubai’s booming tourism industry shows no signs of slowing, with the latest figures showing a 9% increase in international tourists visiting the emirate in the first 11 months of 2024, reaching 16.79 million.

For the same period in 2023, that figure was 15.37 million – meaning an increase of 1.42 million tourists – with peak December figures yet to be included.

According to data from the Dubai Tourism Sector 2024 Performance Report released by the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism, February saw the highest number of visitors (1.9 million), followed by November (1.83 million) and January (1.77 million). The lowest month was June, which still saw 1.19 million international arrivals.

Western Europe was the top source region for tourists to Dubai in this 11-month period, accounting for 20% of the total number of visitors (3.298 million), followed by South Asia with 17% (2.858 million) and GCC countries 15% (2.5 million).

The Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and Eastern Europe came fourth with 14% (2.353 million).

Available hotel rooms increased during this period, with rooms rising from 149,685 to 153,390 and the number of hotels up from 820 to 828.

Nearly 100,000 of those rooms were from the higher end of the scale, with 35% of total rooms in Dubai being in five-star hotels (53,977 rooms) and 28% being four-star hotels (43,345 rooms).

The average daily rate (ADR) for the first 11 months was AED520 (US$142), up 2% on 2023, while the average revenue per available room (RevPAR) was AED405 (US$110), up 3%.
