Lake Como’s Passalacqua took the top spot

The list of The World’s 50 Best Hotels was announced at an awards ceremony held at London’s Guildhall on 19 September 2023.

The world of travel gathered from all corners of the globe to see industry-defining hotels from 35 different locations across six continents worldwide recognised on the night.

This list mark’s 50 Best’s first foray into the travel space, and its first new global ranking since the launch of The World’s 50 Best Bars in 2009.

Opened in June 2022, Passalacqua, the luxury boutique hotel on the shores of Lake Como took the top spot on The World’s 50 Best Hotels list. Located in an 18th century villa with terraced gardens running down to the water, the De Santis family has created a 24-room property with the feel of a private home.

Coming in second place was Rosewood Hong Kong set in the city’s Victoria Dockside arts and design district with views over the harbour. Four Seasons Bangkok at Chao Phraya River in Bangkok came third.

Flying the flag for the Middle East was Atlantis The Royal at number 44. Opened this year with a live performance by Beyonce, the 795-key ultra-luxury Kerzner property was the only hotel in the region to make the list.
