High-speed passenger service to connect the emirates
Etihad Rail, the national railway of the UAE, has announced plans for a passenger service linking Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
According to Abu Dhabi Media Office, the high-speed trains will travel at speeds up to 350km/h and slash travel times between the two cities to just 30 minutes, a journey that can take two hours by road.
There will be six stations, with four in Abu Dhabi (at Reem Island, Yas Island, Saadiyat Island, and Zayed International Airport) and two in Dubai (close to Al Maktoum Airport and Jaddaf) with the route passing through "key destinations and tourist attractions".
There will also be a regular-speed passenger service that will connect all the emirates. It will travel at 200km/h and carry up to 400 passengers. There will be four stations in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah and Fujairah.

Etihad Rail’s state-of-the-art network will offer passenger and freight services, and aims to connect all seven emirates with neighbouring GCC countries. The railway will link major cities and centres of trade.
When complete, the network will extend to 900km, from the border of Saudi Arabia to the border of Oman.
Etihad Rail has successfully been operating a freight route that spans 264km since 2016 in the west of the UAE, establishing rail as a safe and sustainable mode of transport.
No timeline has been set for the start of passenger services.
