German inbound market to MENA region set to rise

Solo female traveller explores Saudi Arabia's Hegra in new This Land is Calling tourism campaign

Within Germany, online searches for Saudi, UAE and Egypt holidays have grown

German travellers are looking to the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region as an alternative to traditional European destinations for their autumn travels, according to travel intelligence platform Mabrian.

The platform, which is part of The Data Appeal Company, says that demand for travel to the region has surged, with Saudi Arabia (pictured above), the UAE and Egypt seeing significant increases in flight searches from the German inbound market.

These findings combine cyclical data about Germans' autumn travel interests and motivations, along with inspirational travel demand data based on Mabrian’s Share of Searches Index reflecting the strength of travel demand based on flight search behaviour.

German demand for Egypt up 41%

Researchers tracked flight searches in Germany, made at least three months in advance, for trips between September and November 2024, focusing on top performing destinations for the German travel market.

The UAE and Saudi Arabia have seen demand increase by 23% and 57%, respectively, compared to autumn 2023, while Egypt has experienced 41% growth.

Mabrian speculates that direct air connectivity from major German cities along with a growing interest in cultural and experiential travel has caused the rise in interest.

"Cultural heritage, combined with outdoor and luxury experiences, makes the Middle East a highly attractive destination for German travellers during the autumn season," said Carlos Cendra, partner and Director of Marketing and Communication at Mabrian.

"Our data show that demand to the UAE and Saudi Arabia is driven especially from Frankfurt and Munich; while interest in Egypt is fuelled by demand from Dusseldorf, Frankfurt and Munich.”

Mabrian analysts believe that Saudi Arabia and Egypt’s increased German demand is driven by the countries appeal as both a cultural hub and a destination for active and outdoor tourism, while the UAE is particularly interesting for Germans seeking shopping experience and beach vacations.
