GHM set to debut Chedi brand in Egypt

Located on Egypt’s Red Sea coast, The Chedi El Gouna will comprise 86 rooms

General Hotel Management Ltd (GHM) has signed an agreement to open a Chedi hotel on the Red Sea coast at El Gouna in Egypt. The Chedi El Gouna, Red Sea, Egypt will be developed on the site of an existing beachfront property and will undergo a complete renovation to reflect The Chedi’s signature Asian aesthetic.

The Chedi El Gouna marks the third collaboration between the Singapore-based hotel group GHM and Switzerland-based Orascom Hotels Management. The two groups previously opened The Chedi Andermatt in Switzerland and launched The Chedi Luštica Bay on the coast of Montenegro.

Commenting on the announcement, GHM chief executive officer Tommy Lai said: “When you’ve built the kind of momentum we have in Andermatt and Montenegro, it was only a matter of time before a third effort was going to have to come off the ground. Given Orascom’s deep roots in Egypt and in El Gouna, a place on the Red Sea was all but inevitable.”

GHM properties currently operating in the Middle East include Chedi Muscat in Oman and Chedi Al Bait in the UAE emirate of Sharjah, with an additional property set to open in Qatar next year.
