Lufthansa launches luggage collection service at Frankfurt Airport

Premium offering includes baggage pickup and check-in

Lufthansa, Germany's flag carrier, has unveiled a new premium baggage collection and check-in service for passengers departing from Frankfurt Airport.

Frankfurt Airport is a popular departure point for GCC-based luxury travellers returning from Germany to the Gulf, with direct also flights offered by multiple local airlines including Emirates.

The innovative service, launched in partnership with technology provider AirPortr, allows travellers to have their luggage collected from their hotels and securely transported to the airport for check-in.

Designed to streamline the travel experience, this premium service is particularly beneficial for Gulf-based travellers embarking on longer trips or carrying extra luggage, allowing them to start their journey with greater ease and comfort from the moment they leave their hotel.

Frankfurt is a popular destination for Gulf travellers

Available to all passengers flying from Frankfurt, the service can be booked through Lufthansa's website up to 36 hours before departure.

Once booked, AirPortr representatives collect passengers' luggage from their specified location, seal it and transport it securely to Frankfurt Airport for check-in. This means passengers can proceed directly to the security checkpoint upon arrival at the airport.

Travellers receive real-time updates via a personalised tracking link and a digital baggage tag receipt, ensuring peace of mind throughout the process.

The new service not only eliminates the need to queue at check-in counters, saving passengers valuable time at the airport, but reduces the physical strain and stress associated with transporting multiple heavy bags.

It also makes it easier for passengers to use public transportation to reach the airport, aligning with Lufthansa's sustainability goals.

Initially, the service covers the greater Frankfurt area, including Mannheim, Heidelberg, Hanau, Aschaffenburg, Wiesbaden, Mainz, Darmstadt, and Bensheim, with plans to expand to more locations in response to growing demand.

Frankfurt is known for its green spaces

Commenting on the new service, Heiko Reitz, Chief Customer Officer at Lufthansa Airlines, said: "With the new pick-up and check-in service, we are offering our passengers another exclusive service that is unique in Germany. We are making the journey easier from the very first minute."

Interested passengers can book the service through Lufthansa's official website. The airline offers flexible options to suit different needs and budgets, including super-saver slots with a six-hour window starting from €25 (US$26), saver slots with a four-hour window starting from €30 (US$31), and premium slots with a two-hour window starting from €35 (US$36).

For travellers from Gulf countries, Lufthansa offers direct flights to Frankfurt from several major cities, including daily flights from Dubai International Airport, and regular direct flights from Riyadh and Jeddah in Saudi and Doha in Qatar.
