Qatar hotel occupancy surges 29% in Q2 2024

Hotel openings and increased tourist numbers drive increase

Qatar’s hospitality industry saw a boom in the second quarter of 2024, according to data showing that hotel occupancy rates grew 29% compared to the same period in 2023.

Sitting at 69% hotel occupancy rate, the data from ValuStrat attributed the increase to the influx of tourists to the country drawn by the opening of numerous new hotels.

From April to June 2024, the Average Daily Rate (ADR) amounted to QR454 (US$124), an increase of 7% year-on-year. The Revenue Per Available Room (RevPAR) reached QR312 (US$85), up 38% year-on-year.

Outlining the reasons for the market boost, ValuStrat’s Head of Research, Qatar, Anum Hassan noted that tourist arrivals had increased by 26% year-on-year, contributing to a 38% annual rise in RevPAR.

In addition to the leisure growth, the government also launched the Simaisma Project, a key new cultural landmark introduced by the Ministry of Municipality & Environment, showcasing a mega entertainment district spanning 8 million square metres.

Qatar’s total hospitality stock is estimated at 39,915 keys, with 74% hotel rooms and 26% services apartments.
