This is the first time the UAE has listed first globally
The UAE passport has been ranked the best in the world by Passport Index, an interactive online tool that provides users with insights on passports, enabling them to compare and rate passports of different nations.
The ranking is based on criterial including freedom of movement and access to visa-free travel for passport holders.
The UAE scored 179 on the index. Eight countries shared second place with a score of 177. They were: France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Spain, Austria and Switzerland.

The strength of the UAE passport makes it possible for UAE nationals to travel freely and enjoy economic, developmental and humanitarian benefits by facilitating trade and economic investments.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the strength of the passport represents the identity of its citizens, and is an important factor affecting its access to global opportunities, ease of movement and quality of life.
Commenting on the achievement, UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan said: "This achievement is a true reflection of the legacy of Sheikh Zayed, the Founding Father of the UAE. It also underscores what can be achieved through positive diplomacy, reflecting the UAE as a confident and engaged force on the global stage."
