Collaboration is the result of high-level consultations in Beijing
The UAE and China have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to increase air activity between the two countries.
The agreement is the result of consultations in Beijing earlier this month between the UAE's General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and the Civil Aviation Authority of China. The GCAA delegation was led by Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the GCAA.
The entities aim to increase air connectivity between the destinations, building on existing ties. The UAE is China's biggest trade partner in the Middle East with Chinese investments in the UAE increasing by 16% last year.

Etihad Airways and China Eastern Airlines signed a joint venture agreement last month in June 2024. This agreement, signed at Etihad Airways’ headquarters in Abu Dhabi, marks the first commercial joint venture of its kind between a Middle Eastern airline and a Chinese airline.
Passengers will benefit from expanded travel options and seamless travel between major cities in China, including Shanghai, Beijing, Xi’an and Kunming, and in the UAE, as well as across the wider Middle East and Africa (MENA) region from early 2025 once all necessary regulatory clearances have been secured.
