Group doubles Oman portfolio with new coastal resorts
Hilton has taken over the management of the Barr Al Jissah resort in Muscat, a collection of three coastal properties previously operated by Shangri-La for two decades. Now re-branded under the Hilton umbrella, the destination comprises Hilton Muscat Al Bandar, DoubleTree by Hilton Muscat Al Waha and Al Husn Hotel Muscat, the resort’s exclusive clifftop retreat, which is set to be reintroduced as a Waldorf Astoria property in 2027.
Managed in partnership with The Zubair Corporation, the transition expands Hilton’s footprint in Oman, doubling its portfolio from three to six hotels.
Located along Oman’s eastern coastline, a 45-minute drive from Muscat International Airport, Barr Al Jissah is framed by the Hajar Mountains and the Gulf of Oman. Each property offers a unique resort experience, complemented by shared facilities and amenities.
Positioned at the heart of the complex, Hilton Muscat Al Bandar caters to both leisure and business travellers. The 198-room hotel features several event spaces, including outdoor venues, an amphitheatre and a ballroom accommodating up to 850 guests. Dining options range from casual lounges to restaurants and poolside bar, La Jolla.
Modelled after an Omani village, DoubleTree by Hilton Muscat Al Waha features traditional architecture for an authentic guest experience. Catering to families, the 302-room property includes a kids’ club, multiple pools, a lazy river and a water slide.

Crowning the three-property complex, Al Husn Hotel Muscat, formerly an adults-only retreat under Shangri-La, commands a clifftop position overlooking the adjoining resorts and the Gulf of Oman, offering guests a private and serene retreat. The 180-room hotel houses four signature dining outlets serving seafood and cruise ship-inspired cuisine. Following renovations, the property will be rebranded as a Waldorf Astoria hotel in 2027, marking the brand’s debut in the sultanate.
Across the Barr Al Jissah complex, guests at all three properties enjoy shared recreational, dining and entertainment facilities, including a private beachfront, tennis courts, wellness spas and PADI-certified dive centres.
Reflecting on the new openings, Guy Hutchinson, President of Middle East & Africa at Hilton, said the developments in partnership with The Zubair Corporation support Oman’s Vision 2040 goal of attracting more than 11 million visitors annually.
Niels Bormans, Group Chief Executive Officer at The Zubair Corporation, added: “We are pleased to officially welcome Hilton as the new operator of Barr Al Jissah Resorts, confident that their global experience, operational excellence, and shared commitment to quality will further elevate the three hotels.”
Hilton continues to expand across the GCC region, recently opening its fourth property in Bahrain, the Hilton Bahrain City Centre Hotel & Residences. New Saudi Arabian hotels are also set to open in 2026, including Spark by Hilton Makkah Aziziyah and Conrad Riyadh Laysen Valley.
