Luxury retreat stands as Middle East’s sole representative on the inaugural ranking
Six Senses Zighy Bay in Oman has been ranked among the World’s 50 Best Hotels extended list, featuring 50 properties placed from 51 to 100 ahead of the main 2025 50 Best list reveal on 30 October.
Part of a newly introduced ranking celebrating outstanding hotels across 24 countries and 40 cities, Zighy Bay is placed at number 84 and is the only property in the Middle East to make the extended list.
It joins celebrated names such as Hotel Cipriani in Venice, Aman New York and The Peninsula Hong Kong.
The recognition follows the Omani resort’s recent achievement of one Michelin Key in the inaugural 2025 global Michelin Key Hotels selection.
Both honours highlight the property’s consistent focus on authentic, mindful experiences that reflect Omani culture and the destination’s natural setting.
Nestled between the rugged Hajar Mountains and the turquoise waters of the Musandam Peninsula, Six Senses Zighy Bay features 82 stone-and-timber pool villas inspired by traditional Omani architecture.
Facilities include four dining venues, a wine cellar and the signature Six Senses Spa, surrounded by date palms and desert landscapes.
Renowned for its sustainability initiatives, the resort recycles 85% of its waste, sources fresh produce from its on-site organic farm, and offers distinctive arrival experiences such as paragliding over the bay or descending a scenic mountain road.
Guests can also dine at the cliff-top restaurant perched 293 metres above sea level or cruise by private dhow through the Musandam fjords.

Beyond the Middle East, the extended World’s 50 Best Hotels list spans both established properties and recent openings, with Asia and Europe leading the representation with 16 and 17 hotels, respectively.
Thailand tops the Asian rankings with Bangkok’s newly opened Aman Nai Lert at 51, while Italy leads Europe with nine entries, including Splendido in Portofino (83). Türkiye’s Maçakızı joins the rankings for the first time at 96.
Elsewhere, New York accounted for four of North America’s 12 slots, India secured three places, with single entries for the Maldives and Sri Lanka, and in the southern hemisphere, New Zealand and Australia each claimed two positions. Africa was represented by Mount Nelson in South Africa at 73.
