The renowned conservationist will name the ship in Civitavecchia, Italy this July
Explora Journeys has announced that renowned oceanographer, explorer and conservationist Dr Sylvia Earle, will be the Godmother of its first ship, Explora I. The naming ceremony will take place at Civitavecchia, Italy on 8 July 2023.
Dr Earle is a celebrated pioneer of deep-sea exploration and has dedicated her life to ocean conservation. She has been a vocal advocate for protecting the world's oceans and marine life, and her expertise and leadership have been recognised globally.
Dr Earle's involvement with Explora Journeys underscores the brand's commitment to sustainable luxury travel at sea and ocean conservation.

Commenting on the news, Explora Journeys chief executive officer Michael Ungerer said: "We are honoured to have Dr. Sylvia Earle as the Godmother of our first luxury ship, Explora I. Her lifelong commitment to ocean conservation and exploration makes her an inspiration to us all."
Explora I, the first of a planned fleet of up to six luxury ships, is designed to provide guests with the ultimate travel experience while minimising its environmental impact.
