Boats to be added to Norwegian coast cruises this summer
Hurtigruten Expeditions has partnered with maritime electric motor systems manufacturer Evoy to design electric tenders.
The line said the custom-built boats are the “first of their kind” and have range to travel to some of the most remote parts of the world, including the Arctic and Antarctic, and can carry up to 20 passengers along with safety equipment.
Hurtigruten will introduce the first electric tenders on expedition cruises along the Norwegian coast this summer.

Iain McNeill, senior vice-president of operations at Hurtigruten, said: “We are very proud to be the first commercial expedition cruise fleet to offer this ground breaking technology enabling silent and emission-free excursions with minimal disturbance to local wildlife. It is an innovation collaboration based on our aligned commitment to safety and sustainability.”
Leif Stavøstrand, Evoy chief executive, added: “We are excited to partner with Hurtigruten Expeditions on their path to net zero. We both share a fundamental respect for nature and a strong commitment to protecting our oceans through ensuring emissions don’t make it into the atmosphere.”
