Rooms offer views of forest and the Beagle Channel
Silversea has revealed new details about its first-ever hotel, The Cormorant at 55 South, set to open in Puerto Williams in Chile at the end of the year.
Overlooking the mountains and glaciers of the Beagle Channel, the 150-room property will become the world's southernmost hotel when it debuts for the 2025/2026 Antarctica season, offering guests a convenient gateway to the ‘White Continent’.
The hotel marks a significant step for Silversea, extending its signature brand of luxury and personalised service from sea to shore for the first time.
The Cormorant is a nod to the hotel’s unique location at 55° and pays homage to Lakutaia, the indigenous Yahgan word for cormorant, an aquatic bird that symbolises the seafarer.

Designed to blend into the surrounding woodland environment, the hotel will offer two room views, one of the forest and the other overlooking the still waters of the Beagle Channel.
Each room has been thoughtfully designed with expansive windows that frame the views and drench the space with natural light. Connecting indoor and outdoor spaces further, interiors combine warm wood tones and earthy elements, and every room features handcrafted artworks by regional artisans.

From the comfort of the hotel, guests can enjoy easy access to one of the world’s most remote and spectacular landscapes.
“The Cormorant at 55 South is a tribute to the rich culture, breathtaking natural beauty, and storied history of Puerto Williams, immersing guests in their destination before embarking on their journey to Antarctica,” said Bert Hernandez, president of Silversea
“Every aspect of The Cormorant is thoughtfully designed with our guests in mind, ensuring a comfortable and uniquely Silversea experience. Each room offers panoramic views of Patagonia, and the hotel creates a deep connection to the local community, providing specially designed experiences that will allow our guests to begin their expeditions sooner than ever, all in uncompromised comfort.”
The first travel brand to offer luxury Antarctica expeditions, Silversea has extensive experience in the region, as well as an industry-leading expedition team with 28 experts, kayak instructors and world-class onboard lectures.
Silversea Antarctica cruises take place between December and March and stretch from 10 to 21 days. For those who want more time in the destination, they also offer a six-day Antarctica Fly Cruise expedition with a flight over the Drake Passage.
