5-day weekend for Kuwait starts 25 February

Here are the best short- and mid-haul holiday destinations to book

Kuwaiti residents will get to enjoy an extended five-day weekend in February to mark National and Liberation Days.

Everyone working in the public sector will have three public holiday days from Tuesday 25 to Thursday 27 February 2025, it was announced by the Cabinet as part of its weekly meeting.

Potentially, private sector workers might also enjoy a five-day weekend.

statement from state-run KUNA news agency clarified that the holiday applies to government offices, authorities and public institutions, with businesses and organisations with unique working hours able to decide their own schedules.

With the work week in Kuwait running from Sunday to Thursday, the three days of leave allow workers time off to enjoy a five-day break, from Tuesday 25 February to Saturday 1 March.

This creates an opportunity for travel advisors to book last-minute holidays for clients based in Kuwait. CT has compiled a list of short- and medium-haul destinations to inspire clients with.

Destinations within around five hours of Kuwait proving popular at this time of year include fellow GCC countries for dynamic city breaks in mild climates, from vibrant Dubai in the UAE to Manama in Bahrain with its UNESCO-listed sites and The Lost Paradise of Dilmun Water Park, billed as the world’s largest underwater theme park.

Sri Lanka and Türkiye are also within five hours’ reach, and both offering sunny blue skies and pleasantly warm evenings at this time of year.

Sri Lanka’s capital Colombo combines beautiful beaches with a rich blend of culture and history, from temples to markets, while Istanbul is currently proving a popular pull for foodies, thanks to the December 2024 release of Türkiye's Michelin Guide.

Eight of the 14 Michelin-starred restaurants in the country are located within the Turkish capital and getting a table is easier outside of peak tourist season.
