Azerbaijan Tourism Board targets UAE market

Representatives host networking dinner and cultural event in Abu Dhabi

More than 232,000 visitors from the Gulf region travelled to Azerbaijan between January and October 2024, reflecting a 20% increase compared to the previous year. This growth is supported by a visa-free travel agreement and robust flight connections, making Azerbaijan more accessible than ever for UAE residents.

Building on this momentum, Azerbaijan Tourism Board, together with the Shusha City State Reserve and the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, hosted an evening of networking and cultural celebration in Abu Dhabi, the UAE capital, welcoming travel industry leaders and media representatives to explore the diverse offerings of Azerbaijan as a travel destination.

The event featured a networking dinner, followed by ‘Shusha Days’, a cultural showcase celebrating the rich heritage of Azerbaijan’s Shusha City.

Organised by the Shusha City State Reserve and the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, programming included exhibitions of traditional Karabakh costumes as worn in the 18th-19th centuries, historical photography, authentic Shusha sweets, and a concert that highlighted the city’s artistic legacy.

In addition, a tailored destination presentation gave guests an in-depth look at Azerbaijan’s tourism potential and key attractions.

Azerbaijan offers a diverse range of experiences, from cultural exploration in cities such as Baku and Sheki to health and wellness retreats in Naftalan and Gabala.

Adventure seekers can enjoy hiking trails in the Caucasus Mountains, while food enthusiasts can savour Azerbaijan’s vibrant culinary scene, featuring traditional dishes that reflect the country’s rich heritage.

The country’s world-class hospitality, combined with its unique blend of Eastern charm and modern attractions, continues to captivate travellers from around the globe. Notably, the city of Shusha, renowned for its rich cultural heritage and stunning natural beauty, stands as a testament to Azerbaijan's historical and artistic significance.

In his welcome speech, Sengstschmid emphasised the remarkable growth in tourism from the UAE to Azerbaijan, and underpinned that the event reflects Azerbaijan Tourism Board’s ongoing commitment to fostering partnerships in the Middle East to showcase Azerbaijan’s cultural and natural assets.
