Doha's Hamad International Airport sees 25% surge in passenger numbers

More than 25 million travellers transited through the Qatar hub in first half of 2024

Qatar’s Hamad International Airport has seen a 25% surge in passenger traffic in H1 2024.

The Doha hub, which was named the World’s Best Airport in the 2024 Skytrax World Airport Awards, welcomed 25.9 million passengers in the first half of the year.

Hamad International Airport expanded its network this year by welcoming new airline partners including Japan Airlines, Garuda Indonesia, China Southern Airlines and Akasa Air. These new partnerships have helped the airport drive connectivity, boosting tourism and trade relations globally.

The airport’s growth in operations is in line with a spike in traffic globally. Demand from and to the Middle East is up 45.3%, driven by the recovery of airline operations from GCC countries, specifically the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.

Qatar Airways also expanded its capacity in key Asian markets such as Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam. Moreover, it introduced new routes to Cambodia, Central Asia and other Asian cities.

London emerged as the top destination, with Qatar Airways serving both London Heathrow and London Gatwick. Other popular destinations included Bangkok, Dubai, Jeddah and Colombo.

Hamad International Airport expects a bigger increase in passenger traffic in the second half of 2024.
