Data reveals two of the busiest airports in the world are in the GCC
OAG, a provider of digital flight information, intelligence and analytics for airports and airlines, has revealed its list of the top 10 busiest airports in the world.
A major travel hub and popular connection point for long-haul flights to Europe, Asia, North America and Oceania, the UAE’s Dubai International Airport is in second place. Qatar’s Doha-based Hamad International Airport is also in the top 10, ranking in sixth place.
Nudging Dubai International Airport into second place is Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport, now in first place as the busiest international airport this year in 2021.

The rankings for the busiest international airports are based on airline seats and flight frequency, and the 2021 top 10 comprises:

- Istanbul Airport
- Hamad International Airport
- London Heathrow Airport
- Madrid-Barajas Airport
