Luxury all-suite property debuts in former US Embassy building in Mayfair
The Chancery Rosewood has opened its doors in London, debuting in Mayfair’s Grosvenor Square within the Grade II listed former US Embassy building.
The launch marks the culmination of a four-year redevelopment project and introduces an all-suite hotel set in one of the capital’s most recognisable modernist landmarks.
Originally designed in 1960 and restored by Sir David Chipperfield, the building retains its iconic gilded eagle by Theodore Roszak, crafted from B-52 bomber aluminium.
Inside, the historic setting has been reimagined for contemporary hospitality, with interiors referencing its diplomatic past.
Suites are named after American figures including Kennedy, Saarinen and John Adams, and a 700-piece art collection curated by London-based Cramer & Bell features works by Sir Christopher Le Brun and Anthony Grace, the latter exploring American landmarks and presidential history.
The hotel offers 144 suites designed by Parisian architect Joseph Dirand, ranging from junior suites to two-bedroom penthouses with landscaped terraces.
Guests benefit from flexible check-in and check-out, house car transfers, and personalised butler service in signature suites, with arrivals streamlined as they are welcomed directly to their accommodations instead of a traditional front desk.
Eight dining venues anchor the hotel’s culinary offering, including Serra, serving southern Mediterranean cuisine, and Tobi Masa, which marks the London debut of renowned chef Masayoshi ‘Masa’ Takayama.
While not connected to Rosewood directly, the building will also be home to the first European location of New York’s acclaimed Italian-American restaurant Carbone.
Perched on the rooftop, Eagle Bar features an expansive roof terrace offering sweeping views over Grosvenor Square and Hyde Park.

The subterranean Asaya Spa features a 25m pool, treatment rooms and a fitness centre, and, in a first for a London hotel, incorporates The Taktouk Clinic, a leading dermatology practice, to offer medical-grade skincare alongside traditional wellness services.
For events, the hotel offers a versatile programme, with a grand ballroom accommodating up to 750 guests alongside salons and pavilion-style event spaces.
Speaking at the opening, Radha Arora, President of Rosewood Hotels & Resorts, said: “By bringing together history, art, gastronomy and wellness under one roof, we are proud to offer a destination that is as culturally significant as it is luxurious.”
The debut of The Chancery Rosewood adds to London’s growing luxury hotel scene, joining this year’s reopening of Montcalm Mayfair, an Autograph Collection property in Mayfair, housed in a Grade II-listed hotel with 151 rooms and suites, as well as Marriott’s St Regis London in the West End and last year’s landmark launch of Raffles London at The OWO.
Looking ahead, Mandarin Oriental Bankside is set to open on the South Bank, with Six Senses London also anticipated to make its UK debut soon.
