Riyadh Air and Emirates reveal uniform updates
Middle East carriers have got designs on inflight fashion with Riyadh Air and Emirates sharing details of on new staff uniforms and accessories.
This week, Riyadh Air announced it has commissioned a Saudi fashion designer to create the airline’s first cabin crew uniforms, while Emirates has offered its female crew members the option of 15 different styles of footwear.
Saudi’s newest airline, Riyadh Air will make its maiden flight in 2025 and begin its fashion journey by partnering with local designer Ashi, who last year became the first couturier from the Gulf to join the Fédération de la Haute Couture in Paris as a guest member.
The founder and owner of Ashi Studio, Ashi has dressed some of the world’s biggest celebrities, including Beyoncé, Zendaya and Sonam Kapoor and he will reveal some of the Riyadh Air uniform design concepts at Haute Couture Week in Paris, running from 22 to 27 June 2024. The complete uniform will be unveiled later this year.
Riyadh Air CEO Tony Douglas said the partnership was a proud moment for the airline. “Our cabin crew personify the panache and style that Riyadh Air represents, making it imperative to partner with a likeminded innovator who not only understands Saudi Arabian culture and hospitality, but also captures the essence of our brand with a bold, visual impact,” he noted.

Ashi highlighted that it was an exciting time to be in Saudi Arabia and to witness another Saudi brand going global, and added: “I’m looking forward to sharing the cabin crew fashion line with the world, and to seeing the Riyadh Air team wearing my creations when it takes its maiden flight in 2025.”
Meanwhile, as part of the continued evolution of the Emirates uniform, its women’s shoes, made from leather and manufactured in Spain, now come in a range of 15 styles with differing heights, widths, shapes and styles.
According to a spokesperson for Dubai’s national carrier, the latest edition of women’s shoes and matching leather handbag are a brighter red than before, complimenting the pleat of the skirt and trim of the uniform.
