Spike attributed to increase in European and Asian travellers
An influx of tourists from Europe to Oman has helped fuel a 10.2% rise in hotel revenue in the first five months of 2024 compared with the same time last year.
According to the National Centre of Statistics and Information (NCSI), Omani nationals constituted the largest group of hotel guests, numbering 306,255, while European guests increased by 19.6% to 286,980 and the number of Asian guests rose by 21% to 133,771.
NCSI figures also showed that three- to five-star hotel facilities in the country earned as much as US$281.5 million between January and May 2024, up more than US$27.5 million on the previous year. Revenue growth was driven by a 13.7% surge in the total number of hotel guest.

Muscat International Airport alone saw 4.4 million travellers pass through its terminals, with 4.09 million of those being international passengers while 332,291 were from the domestic market, an increase of 16.8% on 2023.
Indian passengers dominated the numbers moving through Muscat International Airport with 89,206 arrivals and 83,855 departures.
