UAE’s ultra-low-cost airlines carries 3.5 million passengers in 2024
Wizz Air Abu Dhabi has reported record 20% growth in passengers carried in 2024, reaching 3.5 million.
The UAE’s ultra-low-cost airline operated more than 19,000 flights with 4.4 million available seats last year, and carried more than 1.2 million international visitors to Abu Dhabi in 2024, supporting the capital’s tourism goals.
“This year was another record breaker with incredible growth,” said Johan Eidhagen, Managing Director of Wizz Air Abu Dhabi.
“In 2024, we connected people to create great memories, accelerating the growth of the emirate of Abu Dhabi as a global tourism hub.”

Abu Dhabi’s Tourism Strategy 2030 aims to position the emirate as one of the fastest growing global destinations, boosting visitor numbers to 39.3 million. Wizz Air Abu Dhabi plays a pivotal role in contributing to this growth, with a focus on expanding its network into unserved hidden destinations across Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East.
The carrier launched direct flights to Romania and Moldova, one of the least visited countries in Europe, in October 2024, while a service connecting the UAE with the Bulgarian city of Varna will commence on 31 March 2025 and operate three times a week.
In 2024, Wizz Air Abu Dhabi introduced innovative flight subscription models the Wizz MultiPass and All You Can Fly, which sold out twice within 48 hours.
Wizz Air connects Abu Dhabi to more than 30 destinations across the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and Asia. These include flights to Malé in Maldives; Baku in Azerbaijan; Medina in Saudi Arabia; Muscat in Oman; the Egyptian cities of Cairo and Alexandria, Amman in Jordan and Ankara in Turkey, among other destinations.
A joint venture between ADQ (Abu Dhabi’s investment and holding company) and Wizz Air Holdings PLC, the airline recently placed seventh in AirlineRatings.com’s annual list of the world’s safest low-cost airlines, ahead of flydubai and Air Arabia.
