Saudi Arabia to host 2034 FIFA World Cup

Country becomes second Middle Eastern nation to host the tournament

Saudi Arabia has been named the host nation for the men's football World Cup in 2034, following on from the 2030 edition, which is to be held in Spain, Portugal and Morocco.

The 2030 Cup will see one-off matches played in three South American countries, world soccer's governing body FIFA has confirmed.

The 2030 and 2034 World Cups each had a single bid and were confirmed by acclamation.

"The 2034 World Cup will be an extraordinary tournament, as it will mark the 100th anniversary of the first FIFA World Cup in 1930," said FIFA President Gianni Infantino said. "The 2034 edition will undoubtedly be special, and I am delighted with the unanimous support from all continental federations."

The 2034 World Cup final will take place across five Saudi cities, including Riyadh, Jeddah, Khobar, Abha, and Neom. Matches will be held in 15 stadiums, 10 of which will be newly constructed in the five cities, while five others will be developed in Riyadh and Jeddah.

When football fans converge on Saudi Arabia in 2034, it will become the second nation from the Middle East to host the quadrennial tournament, 12 years after Qatar staged it in 2022.
