SLS, The Edition and InterContinental among first properties in phase one of The Red Sea regenerative tourism destination
Shura Island, the heart of The Red Sea regenerative tourism destination on Saudi Arabia’s western coast, is set to open its first three hotels and its golf course in the coming weeks.
SLS The Red Sea, The Red Sea Edition and InterContinental The Red Sea Resort are all gearing up to open their doors this September, while Shura Links – the kingdom’s first 18-hole island course – is also taking tee-time bookings.
This is the first phase that will eventually see 11 resorts, residences, retail and a marina open on the island, with upcoming properties from Faena, Fairmont, Four Seasons, Grand Hyatt, Jumeirah, Miraval, Raffles and Rosewood.
A milestone for RSG as it continues to deliver on its regenerative tourism mission, the new hotels join five other operation resorts at The Red Sea, including ultra-luxury properties Shebara and Desert Rock that are fully owned and managed by RSG, which is a PIF company.
In March, Shebara was included on TIME’s ’World’s Greatest Places’ list for 2025.
SLS The Red Sea features 150 rooms and villas, including beachfront options; The Red Sea Edition has 240 rooms, including 53 suites; and InterContinental The Red Sea Resort has 178 rooms and 32 suites.
Shura Links opens this month and will offer a world-class golfing experience and spectacular views, with the course designed to blend into the desert landscape and incorporate the latest sustainability methods.

“As the heart of The Red Sea, Shura Island represents everything Red Sea Global stands for: bold ambition, deep respect for nature, and a commitment to redefining tourism in Saudi Arabia and beyond,” said John Pagano, Group CEO of Red Sea Global.
“With the soft opening of Shura in the coming weeks, we move closer to achieving our mission to set new standards in regenerative tourism, while realising Vision 2030.”
Shura Island is just 25 minutes from Red Sea International (RSI) airport which recently announced direct flights from Qatar Airways three times a week starting in October, while international arrivals from Dubai and domestic flights from Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam are already serving the destination.
The Red Sea began welcoming guests in 2023, and sister destination AMAALA – which will also be accessed via RSI – remains on track to welcome first guests in 2025.
The resorts on Shura have been designed to blend seamlessly with the island’s landscape and have minimal environmental impact. The island is powered by renewable energy from RSG’s own solar farm.
