World’s biggest Courtyard by Marriott to open in Saudi

Courtyard by Marriott Makkah Al Naseem to have 2,179 rooms

Marriott International has confirmed it will open a 2,179-room Courtyard by Marriott Hotel in Makkah in Saudi Arabia

Expected to debut in 2026, the deal with Al Qimmah Hospitality Company and Amwaj Real Estate Company, will see Courtyard by Marriott Makkah Al Naseem become the brand’s largest hotel in the world.

The hotel will consist of seven inter-connecting towers and include a lobby lounge, a grab-and-go market and a restaurant to cater to more than 1,800 guests.

Marriott currently has 42 properties in Saudi Arabia.

“The signing of the agreement reflects the kingdom’s Vision 2030 framework, which aims to position the country as a global hub for religious and cultural tourism and continues to promote cultured real estate development,” said Dr Abdul Razzaq BinDawood, Chairman of Al Qimmah.

As part of Vision 2030, the kingdom is targeting 30 million religious tourists by 2030.

According to consultancy Knight Frank’s analysis of hotel supply in Makkah and Madinah, more than 221,000 hotel rooms are planned or under construction, with 40,000 in Masar Makkah and a further 39,000 in Thaker Makkah.

Among 2024 openings, Radisson Group launched the 161-key Park Inn by Radisson Makkah Thakher Algharbi, just 2.1km from the Grand Mosque, as well as the 133-key Park Inn by Radisson Makkah Thakher Alsharqi, providing guests with a 24-hour shuttle bus service to the Grand Mosque. 

Rotana Hotels & Resorts also opened its first property in Madinah, a 512-key four-star hotel positioned in front of the Prophet’s Mosque, offering four dining venues and a rooftop terrace.

Accor, which already has 13 hotels in the Holy Cities, will open Fairmont Rua Madinah and Abraj Omar Hotel & Residences Makkah – MGallery Collection in 2027. 

Saudi Arabia’s tourism sector saw hotel rooms more than double in Q3 2024, soaring from 214,600 to 443,200.
