World's busiest international airports confirmed

One GCC-based airport ranks in top 10

After releasing preliminary estimates in April 2024, Airports Council International (ACI) has confirmed the top 20 busiest airports in the world.

The UAE's Dubai International (DXB) comes in second place with a total of 86,994,365 passengers passing through the airport.

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) is the world's busiest airport with 104,653,451 passengers recorded.

Dubai’s latest achievement comes after the announcement earlier this week that the Dubai Mall has clocked up 57 million visitors in first six months of 2024 making it the most visited place on Earth for the second year running, according to developer Emaar.

ACI World collects airport traffic every year through its global network of airport operator members, investors, and aviation stakeholders. The dataset reveals airport passenger, cargo, and aircraft movement rankings for more than 2,700 airports in185 countries and territories.

ACI World Director General and CEO Luis Felipe de Oliveira said: “The dataset findings indicate that the demand for air travel is as strong as ever. International passenger traffic has now almost fully recovered from the pandemic, and the regional disparities are gone.

"China’s reopening fuelled much of 2023’s strong growth and has propelled Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport back into the Top 20. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport continues to lead the way, but the revival of Middle East and Asia-Pacific hubs is the standout takeaway from 2023 figures."
